Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Sports Therapist?

Sports Therapists are trained experts in injury diagnosis, injury treatment, exercise prescription, injury prevention, rehabilitation and many other areas of sport, health and fitness.

What is sports massage?

Sports massage is a form of remedial massage and soft tissue treatment designed to relieve tension, reduce knots, improve range of motion and performance, decrease pain and improve wellbeing. Techniques include Neuromuscular technique, myofascial release, Soft Tissue Release and Muscular Energy Techniques.

Do you only treat people who are into sport?

Absolutely not, everyone can benefit from Sports Therapy or a Sports massage. You don’t have to be an athlete for an injury or chronic pain to affect you. Sports Therapy can help treat and rehabilitate you from injury and ongoing niggles so that you can carry out your everyday life pain free and with improved function. It can also help address postural imbalances which will help your body function better in your daily life.

What does a treatment involve?

During your first treatment, you will be required to fill in a short medical form and injury history. We will then discuss any aims of the treatment, the reason you have come to me and your goals. Whether this is to relieve tension headaches at the end of a stressful working week, a tight or painful back or to get back to your sporting activities. After a short postural assessment to gain an idea of the current biomechanics in the body we will proceed to treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your individual circumstances and will be discussed with you by your therapist at the initial appointment.
Some people like to come in every week or fortnight for a deep tissue/sports massage. Some may need an intensive block of treatments during an injury or rehabilitation phase, and others may come in once every 6 week or so for general maintenance.

What should I wear?

You should wear loose/comfortable clothing to allow access to the area being treated.
For postural assessment’s you will be required to undress to your underwear.
Men usually wear Short or Boxers. Women usually wear shorts and a sports bra.
Your modesty is important to us so we always use towels for your comfort.
